Following on from the very well-attended PTA AGM, Debbie Corrie has been appointed as the new PTA Chair. Having worked hard supporting the PTA over the last few years, Debbie has been a huge asset and it is a pleasure to welcome her to her new role. Joanne Riordan and Gill McLean have agreed to stay on as joint Vice Chairs to help with the transition and Helen Smalley will remain as Treasurer.

PTA ROUND-UP 2015-16

The PTA have had a fantastic year putting the FUN into fundraising! A number of successful events have taken place including: Family Bingo, Christmas Fair (including a visit from Santa), Discos and of course, the Summer Fair. A huge thank-you to everyone who helped out including: parents, school staff and past and present pupils – plus all the parents, grandparents, family and friends who come along and show their support.

The PTA agreed that this year the library and each year group would be given £200 to spend, which caused great excitement across the school. The teachers asked the pupils for their suggestions and everyone responded with enthusiasm. So many brilliant things were purchased and the money was put to good use including: over 140 new books for the library; sand and water trays for Year 1; a huge and much-loved book-corner teddy for Year 2; a fantastic badminton set for Year 3 (& the whole school); a new book corner with extra squishy seats for Year 4; an amazing celebration of Greek heritage in Year 5 and in Year 6 a replica pumping heart, boggle to help with spelling and comprehension sets, plus so much more. The playground has also benefitted from a bubble machine that, together with last year’s music system, has taken playtime fun to a whole new bubble-popping level! A full breakdown will be given at the AGM in October and following this, by newsletter too.

Also, a special mention for the PTA-funded music sculpture week with Ben Gates. Pupils from the whole school created instruments out of ‘junk’, culminating in exhilarating performances by Key Stage 2. It’s hard to put into words the value this added to understanding music, rhythm and the joy of playing an instrument. The pride it gave the children as they performed to rapturous applause from staff and pupils was heart-warming.

The money raised benefits every single pupil at Hayton school. The next PTA meeting will be in October and no matter how little time you can devote, it is the many hands that make light work!
