School Council

Our school council is run by Mrs. Thompson.

Our School Council

We are the voice of the children at Hayton!

Our School Council is made up of children from across our school who have been chosen to represent their classmates. Our job is to listen to everyone’s ideas, share them and help make our school the very best it can be.

Being a School Councillor is an important job. We don’t just talk about things — we help to make things happen!

What do we do?

As your School Council, we:

  • Listen to your ideas – we find out what children in our classes think and what matters to them.

  •  Share your views – we take your ideas and suggestions to our School Council meetings so that everyone’s voice can be heard.

  •  Work together – we discuss ideas, solve problems and make decisions as a team.

  •  Make a difference – we think about how we can improve our school, help our community and care for the wider world.

  •  Take action – when we agree on something we would like to change or improve, we work with children, staff and other members of our Hayton family to try to make it happen.

  •  Keep you informed – we report back to our classes so everyone knows what we have been discussing and doing.

Why is School Council important?

At Hayton, we believe every child should have a voice.

School Council helps us learn how to listen to other people, respect different opinions, explain our ideas and make decisions together. It helps us understand that our ideas and actions can make a real difference.

We are learning how to be active citizens and how democracy works — not just by learning about it, but by taking part in it ourselves.

 Being Mighty OAKS

Being a School Councillor is also a chance for us to live out our Mighty OAKS virtues.

We show Optimism by believing we can make a difference.
We use Adaptability when we listen to different ideas and find solutions.
We build Kinship by representing and caring about everyone in our Hayton family.
We show Service by giving our time to help others and make our school even better.

Most importantly, School Council belongs to all of us — not just the councillors.

So, if you have an idea, a question or something you think could make Hayton even better...
