Curriculum Essentials

Under construction - more information to follow.

Hayton School sets out to provide for the needs of all children in the school, through a broad and balanced, knowledge rich, skills based curriculum, relevant to each individual child and promotes deep learning across all subjects.

We use the Chris Quigley Essentials Curriculum based on the Key Stage 1 & 2 National Curriculum for England and the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework. The Chris Quigley Essentials curriculum and the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework informs our choices about content and curriculum sequencing to ensure effective learning and progression throughout the school.

We track the progress of pupils in the Early Years using the Early Learning Goals and Key Stage 1 & 2 children use Chris Quigley’s Depth of Learning. In addition, we use Accelerated Reader and Power Maths to support the accuracy of Teacher Assessment. Power Maths ensures mastery in mathematical reasoning using manipulatives to support learning and understanding of arithmetic and mathematical enquiry.

This information supports children’s next steps in learning to achieve a deeper understanding and mastery of all subjects. In addition to the National Curriculum, Religious Education is taught in line with the Cumbria Agreed syllabus and children are also given the opportunity to take part in thoughtful and reflective experiences in collective worship with in the school and at St Mary Magdalen Church, Hayton. We provide a culturally rich and diverse curriculum with a global dimension that gives children the chance to reflect on our Christian and British Values.
