Hayton Church of England School provides a safe and happy environment, founded on Christian values, where everyone works together to encourage children to achieve their full potential within society.
At Hayton School, we offer a broad and balanced, knowledge rich, skills based curriculum that is inclusive and relevant to the needs of each individual child and promotes deep learning across all subjects. We ensure our curriculum is fully accessible for all those children with disabilities or special needs.
We use the Chris Quigley Essentials Curriculum and Curriculum with Unity Schools Partnership (CUSP) based on the Key Stage 1 & 2 National Curriculum for England and the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework. The Chris Quigley Essentials Curriculum and the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework informs our choices about content and curriculum sequencing to ensure effective learning and progression throughout the school. CUSP’s evidence informed approach to the curriculum design inspires pupils and brings about success.
We track the progress of pupils in the Early Years using the Early Learning Goals and Key Stage 1 & 2 children use Chris Quigley’s Depth of Learning. In addition, we use Accelerated Reader, Power Maths and Bug Club Phonics to support the accuracy of Teacher Assessment. Power Maths ensures mastery in mathematical reasoning using manipulatives to support learning and understanding of arithmetic and mathematical enquiry. This information supports children’s next steps in learning to achieve a deeper understanding and mastery of all subjects.
Additionally, Religious Education is taught in line with the Cumbria Agreed syllabus and children are also given the opportunity to take part in thoughtful and reflective experiences in collective worship with in the school and at St Mary Magdalen Church, Hayton. We provide an aspirational, culturally rich and diverse curriculum with a global dimension that gives children the chance to reflect on our Christian and British Values.
These words describing our curriculum were gathered during a collaborative session with parents, children and staff in December 2020.
