Victorian Christmas Experience - Dressing-up Suggestions

All of the following clothing suggestions can be simply made - older family relations and charity shops are a good resource, and it is great if men's shirts, female servant's blouses, mob-caps & pinafores can be starched if possible.

Male guests and family

White cotton shirt

Bow-tie

Black or patterned waistcoat

Black dinner jacket

Black trousers

Black lace-up shoes

Male servants

White cotton shirt

Red and white spotted neckerchief

Black or dark striped/plain waistcoat

Long, dark green bibbed apron

Black trousers

Black lace-up shoes

Female guests and family

Long sleeve, high-neck blouse

Long full skirt - these could be silky fabrics

Ballet pumps or low-heeled shoes

'Paisley' or silky shawl

'Jewels'

Hair should be worn 'up' if possible

Female servants

Elbow length blouse

Long, plan dark skirt - these could be cotton/wollen fabrics

Black lace-up shoes

Dark woollen shawl

White cotton pinny

Hair should be tucked under mob cap
