Impact of what we have done so far:

  • Hired qualified sports teachers to improve pupil performance and to provide CPD for staff to ensure sustainability. These include specialisms in the areas of football, cricket, rugby and gymnastics.

  • Replace worn equipment.

  • We have enabled all pupils in KS1 and KS2 to undertake swimming lessons and enter the swimming team into a gala.

  • To encourage activity we provide a twice weekly running and walking club which ties into the active Cumbria 100 mile challenge which every child in the school has the opportunity in which to participate.

  • Annually organising inter-team sports competitions and whole schools sports day.

  • This year we have entered even more School Games competitions in Carlisle.

  • Over 40 children took part in the Lanercost cross country.

  • For the first time we have entered several girl’s football competitions, allowing girls from Year’s 3 – 6 to participate.

  • We have set up a Sports Crew involving pupils from Years 3 – 6. They assist with running club and are keen to run an athletics event for KS1 during the Summer Term 2017.

This has enabled us to achieve:

  • Winning the Lanercost and Talkin Tarn Cross Country events.

  • 3rd place in the Swimming Gala.

  • Competed and won the orienteering event for Carlisle in the School games.

  • County orienteering champions.

  • County Girls Football champions including taking part in the Northern finals in Sheffield.

  • Won the Brampton Netball Competition and came 2nd in the Carlisle Competition.

  • Won the Carlisle Girls Cricket Competition.

  • Increase in participation indicates that more pupils are enthused by sport and consequently take part.

Future plans:

  • To continue staff CPD to enable us to continue to provide rich sporting activities for all pupils and to ensure provision of good quality equipment to support teaching and participation.
